Creative Project Reflection
The point of my video was to compare Estha’s behavior before and after being molested. In God of Small Things Arundhati Roy slowly gives the reader a glimpse of Estha and Rahel’s past to help explain what is going on in their present. Throughout the novel Roy gradually allows the reader to see more and more of Estha and Rahel’s story. Roy uses a circular narrative to keep the reader engaged and interested in her writing. In the beginning of the book Estha and Rahel view the world like normal children due. As the story unfolds Estha and Rahel begin to see the world differently. The same things they saw as children have taken on new meaning. This new worldview changes the way the twins act with each other and with their family. When Estha and Rahel were children they enjoyed playing in their house, however when they grew older they started to view their house differently. In making my video I thought about things from my childhood that I had positive associations with. Thinking about these childhood objects from my past allowed me to make more of a personal connection with God of Small Things. I wanted to compare the way Estha and Rahel viewed normal objects as a kid to how they view them when they are older, and how this relates to their loss of innocence throughout the novel. This project challenged me because I had to think about objects that played a significant role in my childhood. I enjoyed this project because it gave me creative freedom. I also enjoyed working alone on a creative project because similar projects usually are done in groups.
